The Charleston beach ride

Friday May 15, 2009 - On May 15 we departed from Lula, Georgia to our destination of Charleston, South Carolina. We averaged between 15 to 22 miles per hour. The first half of this journey was hilly as ALL GET OUT!!!! By lunch time it was 90 degrees. The lead group stopped for lunch while the rest of us stopped in Elberton. Continuing down the road we found out that five of our members went the wrong way "we have a way of making people go the wrong way "VIC"". Lucky for us we didn’t get caught in the same hailstorm that they did. It stinks to go the wrong way! As we cruised into Waynesboro, about 6:30 pm, we all separated in to different groups to go out to eat, half of us ate soul food while the other half settled for Pizza Hut. Congratulations to the riders who rode the 168 the first day!!!

On Saturday, we departed at 7:30 from Waynesboro, heading on the final stretch to Charleston. Three blocks from the start, a biker blows a tire and replaces wheel-- NOT A GOOD START! Today everyone got split up in a 45 minute range, but we regrouped at subway for lunch. Another day on the hot road but at least it was FLAT! This was the point of the trip where Kelly Parham rode with everybody and kept up on a TOWNIE!!! After a hard day in the saddle, the riders were happy to see “WELCOME TO CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA”. After regrouping and recouping, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Charleston Crab House. Sleep was well need along with acupuncture, but all we had to settle for was Advil and ibuprofen.

This is an annual ride to raise money for Team Green, Hope to see you next year, or call Northstar bicycles at 706-265-4397 and ask for Kelly.
